What is YBP?

 It's the Chamber's Young Business Professionals between the ages of 21-40;

those on the upward ladder to success; those who will replace us when we retire; those who are still learning what it means to network their way to success. If you have an employee in this range group, call us and we will
sign them up for the YBP at no cost.  Meetings are held monthly.

March's YBP Mixer at
Carson Lanes

Megan Walsh seems happy with her throw.  In the background is Johnny Olivas.

Dr. David White and Gerd Poppinga enjoyed an evening of bowling during the recent Carson City Chamber Young Business Professionals family night out at
the recently renovated Carson Lanes.
YBP meets monthly at various venues in the city.

Since it was family night at the bowling alley for the YBP,
Mike McIntosh taught his daughter Madilen the fine techniques of the game.

You will continue to receive updates and notices each month.

How does the YBP enhance your business?

YBP will enhance my business by providing networking opportunities as well as staying involved and active within the community that I work.

What do you wish to get out of your YBP membership?

What advice can you give other young professionals?

The advice that I would like to offer to other young professionals is that a strong work ethic is vital to your success and the persistence behind it will get you to where you want to go. Also, at the end of a long hard day, remind yourself, if it weren’t for those rough days we wouldn’t be able to appreciate the good ones!

Meet 2010 YBP Chair Megan Walsh

Megan Walsh, financial advisor at Irwin Union Bank is the
2010 YBP chair.
The YBP began in late August of 2007 and invites young professionals between the ages of 21-40 to join them.
Following is an interview with Walsh:

Q:        You have been part of the organizing committee of YBP since the very beginning.  What direction do you and your new board wish to take this organization in the future?

A:          The direction I would like to see the group go into is one of informative mixers and community involvement with interactive members.

Q:         YBP has over 100 members from within the region; what future growth do you wish to see?

A:        I want to see an increase in quality members over quantity, to grow in strength rather than numbers.  Given the population of Carson City, I believe that we have attracted the finest young professionals and will continue to do so.

Q:         Tell me a little about yourself and how YBP has increased your visibility in this community.  What is your current job and what are your professional goals for the future?

A:        I have been at Irwin Union Bank for over 5 years; currently I work with our wonderful retail clients as a Financial Service Advisor.   My personal time is spent practicing yoga, taking long hikes with my dogs and going to concerts.  In the future I would like to open my own clothing boutique.  Being an active member of the Young Business Professionals has granted me the privilege to visit businesses I might not have patronized before; it has given me the opportunity to promote Irwin Union Bank and to share camaraderie with professionals like myself.

Q:       One of the goals of YBP is to advance the professional growth of your members.  How are you doing this?

A:         Our board can provide educational forums that are not only informative and interesting but also inspiring.  I want our members to have a strong tie with our community by providing special events that partner with area nonprofit organizations.  I hope this will encourage our members to volunteer.  Ultimately, I hope that our networking events build clientele for the small business owners, generate leads for our members in sales, and allow our members to thrive in this economy.

Q:        Who is on the board?

A:        The 2010 board includes:  Rebekah Stetson, Christy Gillespie, Megan LoPresti,  Gerd Poppinga, Lisa Stirgus, William Shattuck & Jonathon Olivas.
